Tart and refreshing, this healthy smoothie is full of grapefruit and fresh spinach, and is sweetened with a little honey.
Ok, people, listen up. It is currently 30 degrees Fahrenheit at my house in Florida, and it got down to 25 last night. (WHAT? Is this Florida?) I like the chilly weather, but I’m pretty sure my poor little palm bush is shivering outside the window. I half expect my plants to pull up roots and start knocking on the door any second. “Let us in! Let us in! It’s cold out here!” Either that, or the mosquitoes will start knocking. I won’t be letting those little buggers in though. Mwahaha. DIE, mosquitoes, DIE. (Unfortunately their eggs don’t die in freezing temperatures, so we’ll still have to deal with them in the spring. Ugh.)
On another note, would someone please explain to me why I am sharing a smoothie recipe on what is probably the coldest day of the year in Florida. Anyone?
Well, despite the chilly weather, I’ve been on a bit of a smoothie kick these past few weeks. Maybe it’s because I’m craving fresh fruits and vegetables after all the desserts I ate over the holidays. Whatever the case, this Grapefruit Green Smoothie is so refreshing that I decided to share it right now. Just make sure you’re in a warm place while you enjoy sipping on it. (If it’s below freezing at your location, I don’t recommend kicking back on a lawn chair outdoors with this smoothie in hand. Just a suggestion.) Maybe curl up next to a warm fire with a smoothie? Is that contradictory?
Whatever.
This smoothie only requires four ingredients, and one of them is ice. Super easy!
So whether you’re a smoothies-all-year kind of person, or you’re trying to eat healthier after the holidays, go grab some grapefruit and spinach!
Stay warm, those of you in the northern hemisphere! And if you’re in the southern hemisphere or near the equator, stay cool! What’s the weather like where you live?
Grapefruit Green Smoothie
Ingredients
- 2 medium sized grapefruit
- 1/2 cup loosely packed fresh spinach
- 2 Tablespoons honey
- 2-3 cups ice (to desired thickness)
Directions
Slice grapefruits in half. Run a knife between the fruit and rind, and then between each of the fruit sections to loosen them. Hold grapefruit halves over blender and gently squeeze out fruit sections and juice. Add spinach, honey, and ice to blender. Blend until smooth.
