Happy Father’s Day everyone!
I’ll admit, I’m not really a sentimental person when it comes to these kinds of things, but I will say this: I am incredibly grateful for my dad. He’s pretty much the best dad anyone could ever ask for.
So, for this week’s “photo of the week” I’m going to be sappy for about five whole minutes (because that’s the best I can really manage, personality-wise), and tell you a quick story. (If you’re here just for the recipe, feel free to skip to the bottom of the page.)
These are my cowgirl boots. They are my favorite boots in the whole world. In case you can’t tell from this picture, I’ve worn them so often that they’re covered with scuff marks, and the soles are worn down in a couple of places.
When I was in high school, I got my heart set on a pair of cowgirl boots. I was one of those kids that didn’t really like to ask for things, and my dad knew it. So, he determined that he was going to take me to town and find me a pair of boots. We drove around to a couple of different stores until we found a pair that I absolutely loved. When I saw the price tag, I suddenly felt awful even asking for them, but he took those boots right up to the counter and bought them for me. Because he loved me, and he knew how much I liked them, and he just wanted to buy me a pair of boots.
I wore those boots everywhere. In college, they were the main shoes that touched my feet, and I wore them to church on Sundays too. I still wear them. And when I do, I think of my dad. Those boots remind me of what a great dad he is, not just because he bought me something but because of his reason for buying me something. He loves me. He loves all of his five kids.
Getting choked up over here. *cough, sniffle*
Ok, that’s as sappy as I can get, guys. Sorry. But it’s true. 🙂
Anyway… *composing self*
Unfortunately, my dad doesn’t live close by or I would make him an epic cheesecake for Father’s Day. However, Casey’s parents do live nearby and his dad has requested chocolate. So I’ll get busy on that here shortly, and if it turns out well (haha) I’ll be posting the recipe tomorrow. 🙂
For now, I’m going to share my latest favorite smoothie with you guys. The humidity here in Florida is just ridiculous lately, and I’m craving all things smoothie-like.
I’m off to make a chocolate cake as requested, so you all enjoy the smoothie, and I’ll be back tomorrow! Have a fabulous rest of the weekend. 🙂
